Actor Keri Russell, whose potential role remains a mystery, is reportedly in talks to join the lastest installment in the "Star Wars" saga. It has not been announced whether she’ll be on the side of the evil First Order or the fledgling rebellion in the final act of the franchise's third trilogy.
Russell was reported to be joining the “Star Wars, Episode IX” cast according to a Variety exclusive.
This will be a reunion for Russell and director JJ Abrams, who's writing and helming the upcoming 'Star Wars' episode. The two joined forces 12 years earlier in “Mission: Impossible III,” where Russell starred as Lindsey Farris, CNet reported.
It’s also a “Star Wars” reunion for Abrams, who helmed “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.”
Russell has shown a talent for delivering high-action fight scenes when the occasion demands. In addition to “Mission: Impossible,” she did so in “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes” and FX’s “The Americans.”
Production on the project is scheduled to begin by the end of the month. Russell was chosen immediately prior to the Independence Day holiday, and several more actors will be settled on before production begins.
Those expected to return include Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, and Adam Driver.
CNet reported that the film is scheduled to premiere on Dec. 20, 2019.
Folks on social media hoped that the return of Abrams and the addition of Russell might bring life back to the “Star Wars” legacy.
But as one observed, it’s way too early for complaining.
