Did KFC serve a deep-fried rat?
That's the question plaguing fans of the fast-food restaurant after Los Angeles man Devorise Dixon posted a picture and video to Facebook last week showing what appears to be exactly that.
According to CNN, Dixon was invited to appear on the "The Randy Economy Show" on AM radio this past Saturday, where he described the moment he realized he was eating what he claims was a rat.
"It was very nasty. I spit it out. I looked down at my hand and I realized that it was in the shape of a rat with a tail and everything in it," said Dixon.
After he collected himself, he placed the suspect meat in a bag and put it in the freezer. He said he soon returned to the restaurant with the package in hand, and confronted the manager.
"The manager actually freaked out, confirmed that it was a rat. She apologized for it. They actually just offered me a free meal," he explained.
Dixon said he refused the free meal, and said he'd get a lawyer instead — hinting at the suggestion commenters plastered across his Facebook profile: Sue the restaurant.
KFC representatives said they were trying to reach Dixon to discuss the incident, and have publicly offered to have an independent laboratory test the meat to determine whether it is a rat.
After days without making contact, KFC said they suspect the meat is in fact a chicken breast, albeit an oddly shaped one. CNN was also unable to reach Dixon for comment.
By Tuesday, KFC was responding to online comments with the following statement:
"KFC takes customer claims very seriously, and we are continuing to investigate this matter. Our chicken tenders often vary in size and shape, and we currently have no evidence to support this claim. We are aggressively trying to reach Mr. Dixon, and we request that he return to the restaurant with the product for testing, or call us at 1-800-Call-KFC."
