KFC Double Down Dog Subs Fried Chicken for Hotdog Bun

By    |   Wednesday, 28 January 2015 11:30 AM EST

KFC has introduced a new Double Down Dog in the Philippines which replaces the traditional bread hot dog bun with one made of fried chicken – and the concept has already created a buzz on Twitter.

Kentucky Fried Chicken is also home of the Double Down sandwich, the same concept with a chicken sandwich which adds bacon and cheese. KFC has reported on Facebook that it is doing bang up business in the restaurants selling the chicken-hot dog combo.

KFC has also been Tweeting happy customers who have been chowing down on the Double Down Dog as well.

For some, like the Los Angeles Times' Jenn Harris, the Double Down Dog is another in a line of head-scratchers.

"We excused you when you used a fried chicken bun to sandwich pieces of bacon and melted cheese," Harris wrote for the Times. "And we politely turned our heads when you decided to serve your fried chicken and fries in Go Cups. But we just can't wrap our heads around your latest menu item."

Model Chrissy Teigen came to the defense of the Double Down Dog, sort of, calling it a "time saver" on Twitter.

There was a wide variety of comments about the Double Down Dog on Twitter.
