French police were still hunting on Tuesday for five people suspected of assaulting Kim Kardashian West in a private Paris residence before robbing her of more than $10 million worth of jewelry.

After forcing their way into the American celebrity's apartment, the robbers held her up at gunpoint and locked her in a bathroom before escaping on bicycles in the early hours of Monday, reported The Associated Press. They stole a jewelry box and a ring.

Kardashian West, who was in the French capital to attend fashion week shows, has since returned to the U.S.

Paris prosecutors say police have yet to identify the suspects and declined to answer whether they had received help from the reality TV star's entourage.

Kardashian West's bodyguard wasn't present when the incident happened.

Police sources said the U.S. reality television star, wife of rapper Kanye West, flew out of Le Bourget airport on the outskirts of Paris after being questioned by police about the robbery, reported Agence France-Presse.

Kardashian, 35, had been in the French capital for Paris fashion week. The sources said the robbers struck in the early hours at the residence in a chic district of Paris.

A spokesperson for Kardashian said she was "badly shaken but physically unharmed" after the assault.

The spokesperson said that "two armed masked men dressed as police officers" entered Kardashian's apartment and held her up at gunpoint. The representative gave no further details, nor did the person say whether the incident was an attempted robbery or had another motive.

On hearing the news, Kardashian's husband, rapper Kanye West, abruptly ended a festival appearance in New York citing a "family emergency."

Kardashian, one of the most identifiable US celebrities, has been appearing prominently at Paris fashion week.

Kardashian, who has two children with West, has been a fixture of US celebrity news for more than a decade after an infamous leaked sex tape and the reality show "Keeping Up with the Kardashians."

Also in Paris, Kardashian was last week approached by Vitalii Sediuk, a famous accoster of the stars, who was caught on video attempting to kiss her rear-end in an apparent social commentary.
