Kim Yo Jong revealed she was pregnant with her second child while she was in South Korea wheeling and dealing North Korean diplomacy for her brother Kim Jong Un at the Winter Olympics, reports say.
She reportedly confirmed the news during her three-day visit to Seoul earlier this month when she started feeling some discomfort which prompted speculation about a pregnancy, the Korea Herald reported.
That may be the last anyone hears publicly about the child. Kim Yo Jong reportedly gave birth to her first child in 2015, but details have never been released and both her and Kim Jong Un’s children have never been seen in public, Fox News reported.
Kim Yo Jong, who last year was promoted by her brother to the ruling party’s political wing, visited South Korea on behalf of Kim Jong Un, where she attended the Winter Olympics opening ceremony and joined the North Korean high-level delegation.
During her visit, Kim Yo Jong scheduled in a meeting with South Korean President Moon Jae-in.
The New York Post reported she documented her wishes in a guest book at the presidential office for North and South Korea to develop closer ties and mentioned “future of unification and prosperity.”
There has been speculation surrounding the visit, such as whether it should be seen as a symbolic gesture by Kim to show he’s keen to maintain the current lull in tensions over his nuclear weapons program, or as propaganda, stealing the spotlight from South Korea and putting more pressure on the alliance between Washington and Seoul.
