Kim Kardashian has sparked debate on the internet by releasing a video for her cover of the Christmas song "Santa Baby."
The song has an unconventional, lo-fi sound. The music video complements the track's atmosphere by showcasing Kardashian wearing a blonde wig and crawling through a house while chaotic, surreal, and religious imagery unfolds around her. Directed by Nadia Lee Cohen and Charlie Denis, the video also features a cameo from Macaulay Culkin, who appears as Santa Claus.
The video received mixed reactions on Instagram.
"I thought you are Christian Kim and this video is blasphemous," one person commented.
"What in the methamphetamine Christmas blasphemy is this?" another person asked.
"This is disturbing. And she claims she is Christian. This is absurd," another added.
Others praised the creativity behind the video.
"GENIUS," one follower commented.
"Love this ... the whole alternative 70s vibe is working," another wrote.
"Creativity at 100%! I love how you consistently challenge the status quo. Keep them talking," a third noted.
"This left me feeling quite uncomfortable. It seems to highlight many of the issues often criticised about Hollywood, and it comes across as undermining the true meaning of Christmas," another critic wrote.
Marking her first music release in over 13 years, Kardashian has teamed up with her brother-in-law Travis Barker, who produced the track under his DTA Records label in collaboration with Columbia Records. The reality TV personality previously recorded a rendition of “Santa Baby” in Season 3, though it remains uncertain if this latest release is a reimagining of that version, Variety reported.
The classic Christmas hit “Santa Baby,” first made famous by Eartha Kitt in 1953, has become a holiday favorite, inspiring covers from renowned artists such as Madonna, Ariana Grande, Cher, Kylie Minogue, Alicia Keys, and Gwen Stefani.
