Kirk Cameron and Cameron Diaz received top honors at the movie awards no one wanted this weekend, the Razzie Awards, tongue-in-cheek tributes given for worst achievements in film for 2014.
If it's any consolation, former Academy Award winners Halle Berry, Sandra Bullock and Ben Affleck have all been targets of the Razzies. In fact, Affleck was honored with a special "Redeemer Award" from the Golden Raspberry Award Foundation for his performances in "Gone Girl" and "Argo,"
noted the Washington Post.
"Saving Christmas" was named the worst movie of 2014 while also capturing worst acting "honors" for Cameron, worst screenplay and worst screen duo for Cameron and his ego, according to the Golden Raspberry Foundation,
reported People magazine.
"This is a vanity project that Kirk Cameron put together," Razzie founder John Wilson told BBC Radio 5 after the program,
according to BBC News. "It's about on the level of a Super 8 movie from when I was a kid. It has no cinematic value at all."
Wilson told the BBC News that on the movie database IMDB.com, "Saving Christmas" was rated the worst movie of all time.
Diaz was named the worst actress in not one, but two films – "The Other Woman" and "Sex Tape."
Kelsey Grammer was named worst supporting actor in four films – "Expendables 3," "Legends of Oz," "Think Like a Man Too" and "Transformers 4," noted People.
Michael Bay was named worst director for "Transformers 4," while former "Transformers" star Megan Fox did not escape scrutiny, capturing the worst supporting actress Razzie for "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles."
"Annie" rounded out the Razzie awards for the worst remake, rip-off or sequel award, reported People.
The Razzies are given out each year the day before the Academy Awards to honor the "low points" of movie making in jest, according to Reuters. The awards are selected by 811 members in the United States and 20 foreign countries who pay a minimum annual fee of $40 their first year and $25 thereafter, noted the news agency.
