Kristen Wiig is reportedly in talks with Warner Bros. and DC to play the villain Cheetah in the upcoming “Wonder Woman” sequel, according to Deadline Hollywood.

The film will be set in the 1980s Cold War period and will feature the return of Gal Gadot as the title character and Patty Jenkins as director.

Wiig is best known for playing a variety of comedic characters on “Saturday Night Live” and for earning an Oscar nomination for co-writing “Bridesmaids,” in which she also starred. She has not played a villain previously, but has had other non-comedic roles in smaller and independent films such as “Welcome to Me.”

The villain Cheetah was a socialite upstaged by Wonder Woman at an event, and her jealously led her to develop an angry alter ego bent on revenge and destruction.

Wiig is not the conventional choice to play a villain, Forbes noted, but Jenkins is believed to have a reason for casting her that has not yet become clear because the film is still in the early stages of production.

Twitter users had mixed reactions to Wiig in the Cheetah role, however.
