Lady Gaga surprised and wowed the Oscars audience Sunday night with a "Sound of Music" tribute to Julie Andrews, who then joined the pop star on stage to present the award for Best Musical Score.

Lady Gaga, the pop songstress best known for hit songs like "Born This Way," "Bad Romance," and "Poker Face," received a standing ovation from the A-list crowd after performing a medley to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the film.

Gaga sang "The Sound of Music," "My Favorite Things," "Edelweiss," and "Climb Ev'ry Mountain," according to Rolling Stone magazine.

Andrews later complimented Lady Gaga on her performance.

"Dear Lady Gaga. It really warmed my heart, it really did," Andrews told the crowd.

"Gaga most recently performed at the Grammy Awards this month where her collaborative album with Tony Bennett, 'Cheek to Cheek,' won for best traditional pop vocal album," Rolling Stone noted. "Both her Grammy and Oscars appearances were similarly subdued with only tinges of her signature theatricality."

Lady Gaga shared with her Twitter follower her excitement about performing at the Academy Awards.

She also seemed to win over many on social media as well.
