Michigan doctor Larry Nassar, who treated hundreds of local and U.S. Olympic gymnasts over 20 years, is facing more charges that he molested and sexually assaulted girls under his medical care.
Twenty-two counts of criminal sexual conduct in the first degree were filed against Nassar on Wednesday pertaining to nine girls, NBC News reported. Two of the girls were under 13 when Nassar allegedly assaulted them, according to the charges filed by Michigan Attorney General Bill Shuette.
“This guy is disgusting. This guy is despicable,” Shuette said as he announced the charges, according to NBC. “He is a monster. Dr. Nassar preyed on these young girls, just little girls. Dr. Nassar used his status and authority to engage in horrid sexual assaults under the guise of medical problems.”
More than 80 women and girls have filed complaints against Nassar and others are continuing to come forward freqeuntly.
Nassar is accused of penetrating the girls vaginally during medical exams without gloves and without their permission. He allegedly told the girls the acts were part of their treatment for back pain and told them not to tell their parents about his actions, NBC News reported.
Nassar worked at Michigan State University and as the USA Gymnastics Team doctor until his was fired in 2015 when allegations began to surface.
Nassar was already facing charges that he molested a family friend from the age of 6, and he is being held without bail for reportedly possessing at least 37,000 images of child pornography, including video that appears to show him groping girls in a pool. He is also accused of destroying evidence for trying to erase and trash hard drives that police found in a trash bin, according to NBC News.
