Laura McComb and Sue McNeil Carey have been identified as the two people whose bodies were found last week in flood-ravaged Texas.
McComb, 34, of Wimberley, Texas, was swept into raging floodwaters Memorial Day weekend along with her children, 4-year-old Leighton and 6-year-old Andrew, when the family's river home was
knocked off its foundation, KVUE.com reported.
Andrew's remains were discovered last week, while McComb's body was recovered over the weekend, the
Hays County Sheriff's Office wrote in a Facebook post Monday. McComb's husband Jonathan was reportedly found 12 miles down the river and has since been placed in intensive care to be treated for a collapsed lung, broken sternum, and a broken rib.
Leighton and other family members remain missing, the Facebook post said.
"[Jonathan] is absolutely devastated. He did everything he possibly could to save them," Julie Shields, McComb's sister, told KVUE.com. "What happened was the house slammed into a bridge and the house broke in two and they had all been in the house together holding hands but when the house hit the bridge and it separated, he got separated from everyone else."
Maggie, the McComb family's golden lab, was found alive last week.
The body of 71-year-old Sue McNeil Carey was identified Monday through
medical and dental records, the Corpus Christi Caller Times reported.
In total, eight bodies have been found in Hays County and all but one have been identified, according to the Sheriff's Office's Facebook post.
