"Glee" star Lea Michele is asking for privacy after the death of her television show co-star and lover Cory Monteith.

Lea Michele was "devastated" by the news of Cory Monteith's death in his native Canada, the New York Daily News quoted sources as saying. Canadian authorities had not announced a cause of death but Monteith, 31, was open about his past struggle with drugs.

"We ask that everyone kindly respect Lea's privacy during this devastating time," People magazine quoted a representative of Michele's.

In March, People reported that Monteith checked into drug rehab. The actor told the magazine he had fought drug addiction since 19.

"I don't want kids to think it's okay to drop out of school and get high, and they'll be famous actors, too," Monteith told the magazine. "But for those people who might give up: Get real about what you want and go after it."

According to People, Michele stated her support of Monteith through his rehab.

"I love and support Cory and will stand by him through this," Michele told People after Monteith stint in drug recovery.

When Monteith was released from rehab, Michele would later tweet, "Today is a great day :) Love you all! Xo."

People reported that Monteith and Michele vacationed together in May in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.

Vancouver Police were still pulling together evidence this week of Monteith's last hours.

"We have interviewed everyone he was with the night before," Vancouver Police Constable Brian Montague told the Daily News on Sunday. "For the most part, it has been turned to the coroner’s office, who will be determining the next steps with respect to establishing cause of death."

Vancouver authorities told People that Monteith was found dead at the Fairmont Pacific Hotel after missing his check-out time. Police had ruled out foul play early in their investigation, according to E! Online.

"Everyone is in shock," a source from the television show "Glee" told E! News. "To say that Cory was much loved on the 'Glee' set doesn't even begin to do him justice."
