League City, a Houston suburb, has banned undocumented children from entering.
The measure, which passed with a 6-2 vote on Tuesday, declines to accept federal requests to
operate detention or processing centers in the city, according to the Houston Chronicle. It cites health and safety concerns among other reasons. So far, the city hasn’t received requests to house undocumented children within its borders.

Galveston County commissioners passed a similar measure on Tuesday afternoon, the Houston Chronicle reported.
Residents spoke out at the League City meeting, both in support of and opposition to the measure.
George Barba, a resident and son of an immigrant, said he was
offended by the resolution, according to The Galveston County Daily News, while Ellen Lancaster said “those expressing support for the resolution are expressing fear.”
Others supported the measure, including Tricia Vickers, who said: “Don’t bring Third World problems into our community,” the newspaper reported.
According to KHOU-TV, the resolution may not stand up to legal tests.
“City councils get frustrated with immigration problems,” said professor Gerald Treece with the South Texas College of Law, according to the station. “But it’s simply not the city’s legal right to tell the federal government what they can and cannot do in the area of immigration. Even states don’t have the authority to do this, much less a city.”
The Obama administration said Tuesday that it will seek $3.7 billion to address an increase in undocumented children entering the country, many from Central America.
Twitter users expressed anger at League City’s decision.
