Leggings are allowed only if students are a size 0 or 2, a school principal in South Carolina reportedly said.

Stratford High School Principal Heather Taylor is facing backlash after making the remarks regarding proper school attire during a recent assembly, telling female students "unless you are a size zero or two and you wear something like that, you look fat," WCBD News 2 reported.

The local news station posted a voice recording of the principal’s address to students. Since then, many have spoken out.

One sophomore student, Allison Veazey, told WCBD the comments were hurtful.

"I felt like my size made me look disgusting towards someone in the clothes that I wear," she said. "I wear leggings outside of school and I wear leggings when I go and hang out with my friends, and to think that someone would think that I look like a stuffed sausage — that was kind of hurtful."

Taylor has since apologized for what she had said in the assembly, stating she had met with various classes to address her comments.

In a statement to HuffPost, she said her intention had not been to hurt or offend any of the students.

"I assured them all that I am one of their biggest fans and invested in their success," she said.

"After speaking with our students and receiving their support, I am confident that, together, we are ready to move forward and have a wonderful year."
