Actress Lindsay Lohan says she is recovering from the Chikungunya virus, apparently caught when she was bitten by a mosquito while on vacation in French Polynesia.
The actress, 28, who recently finished a two-month stint in London performing in the West End play "Speed-the-Plow," posted on Twitter last week that she is suffering from the disease,
noted the New York Post's Page Six.
"Chikungunya is a mosquito-borne viral disease … characterized by an abrupt onset of fever frequently accompanied by joint pain," says the World Health Organization website. "Other common signs and symptoms include muscle pain, headache, nausea, fatigue and rash."
"The joint pain is often very debilitating, but usually lasts for a few days or may be prolonged to weeks. Most patients recover fully, but in some cases joint pain may persist for several months, or even years," says the description.
According to USA Today, Lohan was in French Polynesia with longtime friend Patrick Aufdenkamp when she contracted the Chikungunya virus. Lohan issued an updated Twitter post on Monday.
Lohan then took to Instagram to say she planned enjoy her break despite being sick.
Lohan last made headlines back in September when she forgot her lines during the debut of "Speed-the-Plow,"
according to The Daily Beast.
"Lindsay Lohan only has one major speech in the David Mamet play that marks her West End debut," according to The Daily Beast's Nico Hines. "Unfortunately, she couldn't remember how it went. On the first night of previews, a work-in-progress feel is to be expected. But halfway through the second act of 'Speed-the-Plow,' the audience was openly laughing at Lohan's struggle to grasp Mamet's sharp, trademark dialogue."
Lohan, though, was met with a throng of fans during last performance in late November as she took selfies outside of the Playhouse Theatre,
according to the Daily Mail.
