Lindsay Lohan is off of probation for the first time in nearly eight years after completing a marathon of 125 hours of community service in two weeks to stay out of jail.
The probation stemmed back to a 2012 reckless driving case in which authorities claimed that the
"Mean Girls" actress lied to them, according to TMZ. She was also on probation previously for a 2007 DUI case where she was found to be in possession of a suspected drug.
Two weeks ago, Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Mark Young learned that the actress had completed just nine of the 125 required hours of community service, and he threatened her with jail time if
she did not finish it, the Los Angeles Time reported.
Young agreed to allow Lohan to complete her community service in New York and now, according to Santa Monica chief deputy city attorney Terry White, she has gone above and beyond the required time by volunteering every day, eight hours a day, for two weeks at the Duffield Children Center and the Ali Forney Center in New York.
"I have no other concerns and believe this completes her probationary requirements," White said in an email, according to the Times.
On Thursday, Lohan posted a message to Twitter celebrating her fresh start.
She also posted a message on Instagram announcing the end of her probation.
Now the actress will likely attempt to revive her acting career. She has not starred in a movie since "The Canyons" in 2013. Lohan appeared on stage in London last fall in the play "Speed the Plow," where she
received mixed reviews, according to The Guardian.
