Lindsay Lohan's Reality Show Debuts Weakly on Oprah's Network

Lindsay Lohan's new Oprah Winfrey-backed reality show premiered over the weekend to lackluster ratings, but network execs say the original series is doing exactly what it was meant to.

"We feel really good about [the ratings]," OWN president Erik Logan told TheWrap. "Part of what excited us about this project is that we had the opportunity to diversify the network and expand the brand."

"Lindsay" premiered Sunday to 693,184 viewers and registered a .56 in the key demographic of women 25-54, The Wrap reported. The program also registered a rating of .52 in the category of women 18-49.

"We feel really good about the goal that we had set out," Logan said, "which was one, to tell a good story; two, demonstrate the flexibility of our brand under Oprah [Winfrey]; and three, continue to attract new audiences to the network."

The show chronicles the 27-year-old actress' life after rehab and her efforts to stay clean and sober.

The starlet's legal and personal troubles trace back to a pair of drunken driving arrests in 2007, and a handful of other driving-related incidents, plus probation violations and a shoplifting charge. She has appeared in court at least 20 times, served four brief jail sentences, and been held for 35 days under house arrest, in addition to the six trips to rehab.

The most recent stint stemmed from plea deal to settle charges relating to a 2012 car accident.

Reviewers applauded the reality show's honesty.

"What 'Lindsay' succeeds most at is, for the first time in years, convincing us that Lindsay Lohan isn't a name in an Us Weekly headline or a joke in a late-night monologue or a character in a drama so wild it can't possibly be real life," The Daily Beast's Kevin Fallon wrote in a review. "She's a human. She's a very fragile, volatile, slightly selfish human. But she's one who's working really hard to find peace in the eye of the very large, very tumultuous storm that surrounds her and is causing those dangerous traits."

"Lindsay" airs Sundays at 10 p.m. EST on OWN.
