Country Singer Dies at 25

Country singer Lindsey Lagestee from the band Dixie Crush has died at age 25 after being hit by a car while crossing the street. Fellow band member Jim Nonneman confirmed the news to Taste of Country.

He explained that their front-woman had parked her car a few blocks away from a Chicago-based club where the band was scheduled to perform when the incident occurred.

"She exited her pickup truck and was making her way to the venue when she was struck by a car," Nonneman explained.

Lagestee was rushed to Advocate Christ Hospital in Oak Lawn on Feb. 14 but succumbed to her injuries a few days later. It is not clear whether or not the driver of the car that hit her has been charged.

"From the very beginning, everyone knew she was something special," Dixie Crush wrote in a post to Facebook. "Above and beyond her beautiful voice, Lindsey just had a way of connecting with every audience leaving an indelible impression. Not only would she give an amazing performance, but after every show, Lindsey would come offstage, take time to meet anyone who wanted to say hi, take pictures, and build friendships."

Lagastee, who learned to play the piano as a child and graduated at age 24 with a doctorate in pharmacy, was laid to rest on Sunday.

"Her death was tragic, her life a masterpiece, her sisters Carrie and Samantha wrote in her eulogy. "There will always be a void in our hearts that only her smile could fill, but as time goes on I believe our memories will fill us with happiness instead of sadness, the anger will turn to peace, and we will embrace the sunshine and beauty of life again as our sweet Lindsey would wish for us."

Dixie Crush was founded five years ago by Lagastee. The band soon developed a loyal following and went on to perform countless shows, most notably at Arlington Racecourse and Parkway Bank Park in Rosemont.
