Skier Lindsey Vonn, Olympic gold medalist, injured her ankle Thursday during training in New Zealand and is now headed back to the U.S. for further evaluation.

Vonn, onetime girlfriend of pro golfer Tiger Woods, broke the news on Twitter, and shared a picture of herself in a wheelchair on Instagram.

Last season, Vonn "returned from several serious injuries to set the all-time women's World Cup win record," Sports Illustrated reported. She also captured her seventh World Cup downhill title last season.

Her previous injury, two torn ligaments in her knee, was sustained at the 2013 world championships, and forced her to miss the 2014 Sochi Olympics.

Previous to that, Vonn won an Olympic gold medal in the downhill at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics and snagged a bronze in the super-G. She currently plans to compete in the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea.

Vonn dated pro golfer Tiger Woods for nearly three years, but announced their breakup in May of this year.
