Defending Olympic downhill champion Lindsey Vonn said she will compete in the World Cup downhill at Lake Louise in Alberta on Friday.
Vonn, 29, has not raced since February, when she was involved in a crash during the world championships that left her with two torn ligaments in her right knee and a broken bone in her lower leg,
according to The Associated Press.
Vonn's return to February's Winter Olympics was threatened nearly three weeks ago when she partially re-tore one of the reconstructed ligaments while training in Colorado, but she announced on Facebook she is ready to race.
Vonn told the AP she plans to enter the downhill Saturday and a super-G on Sunday. She said she thought about doing a second downhill training run on Thursday before deciding to skip it.
"You kind of know if your body is ready or not, and I feel like mine's ready," Vonn told the AP. "I'm really excited. It's been a long time coming. But ... it doesn't feel like I've been gone that long. It just feels like the start of a new season. To me, this feels pretty awesome."

NBC Sports reported Vonn will compete at a course nicknamed "Lake Lindsey" for her success during competition there. Vonn won the last seven World Cup races at Lake Louise and has finished no lower than second place at a Lake Louise race since 2008.
"Am I surprised that she's back out here? No. And do I want her back here? Yeah," teammate Leanne Smith told
USA Today. "We're psyched about it. Having her back is fun for everybody. She kicks some butt here. Anything is realistic for her."
"Clearly she's been so talented on this hill for years and years. She knows what to do to win, and I think with the ACL problem or not she's still capable of doing it. I think that's remarkable. I have no idea what she's going to bring tomorrow, but I know she's going to be aggressive and do what she can to be on top," said Smith.
