Hollywood Star Loretta Young Memorabilia Goes on Display

By    |   Thursday, 03 January 2013 04:20 PM EST

Legendary actress Loretta Young will be memorialized in celebration of the 100th year of her life, “the most comprehensive collection of authentic Hollywood memorabilia ever assembled” will be on display in Los Angeles.

The Hollywood Reporter has teamed up with The Hollywood Museum for the exhibit “Loretta Young: Hollywood Legend,” which will open Jan. 9, bringing together the late fashion and movie icon’s personal life and her star status during the oft-romanticized Golden-Age of Hollywood.

Among the collection are love letters from Hollywood leading men Spencer Tracy and Clark Gable, the latter of whom she had an affair and a child with. Elsewhere in the collection are photographs, contracts, documents, and private papers, including handwritten correspondences, home movies, and her awards collection.

Young, who passed away in 2000, was the first actress to receive both an Academy Award and an Emmy Award. Her work spans more than seven decades — from her days as a childhood star in the Silent Era of film to the peak of her career as a romantic leading lady during Hollywood's Golden Age to hosting her own dramatic television series, “The Loretta Young Show” on NBC, for which she won three Emmys. She won an Academy Award for her 1947 film “The Farmer’s Daughter.”

"We are delighted to spotlight one of the greatest Hollywood legends, Loretta Young," said Donelle Dadigan, Founder and President of The Hollywood Museum in a statement, "whose star talents transcended motion pictures and television. It is especially poignant to showcase The Collection at The Hollywood Museum in the historic Max Factor Building as Loretta Young was the first Max Factor makeup model."

Young was a lifetime Republican, an active member of the Hollywood Republican Committee and a staunch supporter of Dwight D. Eisenhower. She was also present during his inauguration.
