Sister Jean Dolores Schmidt has agreed for her name and image to be licensed by the Loyola University Chicago Ramblers, who will take on Michigan in the Final Four of the NCAA Tournament on Saturday.
The 98-year-old nun, who serves as the chaplain of the 11th seeded basketball team, gave her blessings amid overwhelming demand for her name and likeness to be featured on school apparel, Sporting News reported.
The influx of request that have been pouring in prompted Tom Sorboro, a senior associate athletic director at the school, to seek out Sister Jean's permission.
"We weren't going to do anything until she gave her blessing," he said, according to ESPN, adding that she agreed without any hesitation, and did not ask for compensation.
More than 25 Sister Jean-themed T-shirts from various companies have already been approved by the nun, including a shirt with her signature phrase, "Worship, Work and Win."
Sister Jean has become a celebrity at Loyola, where she has served for half a century, and has inspired a bobblehead range in 2011 as well as other unlicensed apparel featuring her name and image, according to The Daily Mail.
Speaking about why she continues to give players a scouting report and lead them in prayer before each game, Sister Jean told CNN it was her calling.
"When people say, 'Why do you do this? You must be awfully tired,' I said, 'What difference does it make at 98, whether I'm tired or not?'" she said. "But the other thing is that I feel that's what I'm called to -- is to minister. And I want to do that. I talk very honestly with the young men. I talk honestly with everybody."
