Amazon is reportedly in talks to pick up Fox’s “Lucifer” for its original content streaming division, joining SyFy’s “The Expanse.”
“Fox” recently canceled “Lucifer” after three seasons of the series, which was based on a “The Sandman” comic book spinoff where the devil, Lucifer Morningstar, gets bored with hell and decides to run a nightclub in Los Angeles, eventually ending up as a consultant for the LAPD.
The show was canceled because of low ratings, Fox said, but Amazon noticed UK ratings were strong and the small audience "Lucifer" did have was devoted, Business Insider reported.
Amazon Studios head Jennifer Salke told Deadline the studio was interested in "Lucifer," saying last week, “We were talking about Lucifer. I know that international, especially the UK group, was really bullish on that show, I haven’t checked in on that today (Thursday), but I heard conversations were ongoing on that yesterday.”
The first two seasons of “Lucifer” are available on Hulu, which could be a complicating factor in getting the show onto Amazon, BI reported. Earlier seasons of “The Expanse” were already streaming on Amazon Prime.
Amazon also picked up “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” for another season.
"Lucifer" fans on Twitter were excited at the possibility.
