The new app has an updated user interface and mobile experience compared to its other mobile apps, and user engagement rates have shot up by 250 percent, BusinessWire.com reported.

To date, Lumosity’s mobile apps have been downloaded 20 million times, with two million downloads of the revamped iPhone app in the last month alone, making it the No. 1 education app in the U.S. iTunes App Store with 25,000 5-star reviews.

The apps aren’t only popular in the United States. Worldwide, Lumosity’s mobile app for the iPhone has reached No. 1 in the Education category in nearly 40 countries.

"Lumosity is like a gym for your brain, and to ensure that our users get the most benefit from the program, we’ve created a mobile experience that makes it convenient and fun to work out your brain from anywhere and at any time," Lumosity CEO Kunal Sarkar said. "We’re committed to encouraging healthy habit formation and lifelong brain health, and mobile brain training is integral in helping us reach that goal."

Based in San Francisco, Calif., the tech company says it is developing the program in more languages to accommodate a diverse global audience.

"We're committed to helping people from all walks of life remember more, think faster and perform better in everyday life, and part of that goal is to be able to provide all of our members with the full Lumosity experience in their native language," Sarkar said in a company press release. "This internationalization will also allow us to study human cognitive performance with more academic researchers, neuroscientists, teachers and clinicians around the globe to learn more about the real-life application of cognitive training."

The company is presently working on an Android version of its popular apps. A roll-out date for the Android version has not been set yet.
