In response, Culkin and his friends in The Velvet Underground tribute band "The Pizza Underground" made a shirt that depicted Gosling wearing the shirt featuring the young Culkin.
The tweet quickly went viral across multiple social media sites and Reddit, providing a cascade of publicity for the band, which recently
released a nine-song parody tribute album of The Velvet Underground and Nico as well as Lou Reed's biggest hits, including "All the Pizza Parties" and "I'm Waiting for Delivery Man."
Fans of the both actors went crazy, Photoshopping the theoretical next steps in what many deemed an "Inception war," and posting pictures to Twitter.
For now it seems the proverbial ball is in Gosling's court, however
The Huffington Post found a picture on Twitter that shows Gosling wearing a shirt of Culkin wearing a shirt of Gosling wearing a shirt of Culkin as a kid.
The photo's authenticity remains in question.
