Malia Obama is allegedly pictured wearing a rap T-shirt in what is being billed as a rare leak from the First Family's private social lives.
Pro Era, a Brooklyn-based hip hop collective, posted a photo of a young girl to its Instagram page Monday that looks a lot like 16-year-old Malia. The girl is striking a pose in one of the group's T-shirts. The caption of the post encouraged fans to purchase Pro Era merchandise.
On Tuesday, a representative for Joey Bada$$ — who comprises Pro Era along with Kirk Knight, CJ Fly, and others —
told Gawker that they received the photo from "a mutual friend of Malia and the pro era (sic) member."
As The Verge noted, Michelle Obama in 2013 told Barbara Walters on "20/20" that Malia had limited access to social media, and that younger daughter Sasha had none.
"I still am not a big believer in Facebook for young people . . . particularly for them, because they're in the public eye," the first lady said at the time. "Some of it's stuff they don't need to see and be a part of . . . So we try to protect them from too much of the public voice."
It is unclear if the photo leaked via social media, text message, email, or some other means, but it does — if it is, in fact, Malia — offer a rare glimpse into the day-to-day life of the president and his family.
