A mystery man wearing a cowboy hat handed out $100 bills at two coffee shops in Massachusetts on Saturday, brightening the holidays for some of the business' employees.
According to the Cape Code Times, the man handed a bag of envelopes to an employee at Marylou’s coffee shop in Hyannis, saying he had something for each of the employees who worked there.
Each envelope included a $100 bill with “Merry Christmas” written in red on the envelope, the report said.
“I think I’m going to pay my rent,” employee Deanna Moreland told the newspaper. “It’s a toss-up between my rent, groceries, or shopping.”
A person thought to be the same man also delivered eight similar envelopes to employees at Dunkin’ Donuts at the Cape Cod Mall, this time wearing a baseball cap.
“He was kind of like an angel, honestly,” manager Kelly Hayden told the Cape Cod Times. “I have goose bumps still.”
Employees at both stores didn’t recognize the man as a regular customer.
In the Kansas City area, an anonymous man known as Secret Santa enlisted the help of the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department in
passing out $100 bills, CBS News reported.
The anonymous wealthy businessman gives out about $100,000 worth of $100 bills each year, CBS said. This year, law enforcement officials helped pass out the dough, pulling over motorists in dented or run-down vehicles and handing them cash. One driver, a mother of three, told the officer that he had saved her Christmas because she wasn’t going to be able to get her children any gifts.
The anonymous man told CBS News that he hoped the officers got joy out of the assignment.
"You know, as tough as they are they have hearts that are bigger than the world,” he said.
