Marie Holmes, who won a $188 million Powerball lottery in February, will probably spend more of her winnings to get her fiancée out of jail, again, after Lamarr Andre "Hot Sauce" McDow was arrested for the third time this year.
McDow's bond was set at $10,000 after authorities arrested him Monday for possession of a firearm, said
Time Warner Cable News. Holmes had already posted bail for McDow on two other arrests totaling $9 million.
In February, Holmes, 26, won sympathy as a single mother supporting four children when she won the Powerball jackpot, according to
WWAY-TV. Holmes opted for the $127 million lump sum, roughly $88 million after taxes.
At that time, she said she would use the money to complete her college degree and buy her mother a home while parenting her three daughters and one son, who suffers from cerebral palsy.
"I am humbled and grateful for the opportunities this has created for my family," Holmes said then. “I hope that this moment can shine a light on the challenges faced by children and adults with cerebral palsy. Not everyone understands what cerebral palsy is, and what it means to a family. I hope our story can help change that."
Some of that money has gone to keep McDow out of jail, said
WNCN-TV. Holmes bailed McDow out of prison in March on a $3 million bond with her lottery winnings. He had been held since November 2014 on heroin charges.
He was arrested again on drug charges in July and this month's gun charge was in connection with violating the curfew terms of his March release.
Holmes herself was arrested at her home in Shallotte, North Carolina, in July on drug charges when authorities initially picked up McDow on his pre-trial release agreement, said
WBTW-TV.
While arresting McDow, 31, authorities said they smelled marijuana inside the home – where they found the drug, a pistol and paraphernalia. Three children were inside the home at the time but the television station said Child Protective Services didn't get involved.
