After it was reported that Marie Osmond wants to perform at the inauguration of President-elect Donald Trump, she set the record straight and said she was not asked and will not perform but supports the new president and wants Americans to come together.

"I don't get political ... but when it comes to our country, I think we need to unite. And to not support our president, I think, is wrong," she told Yahoo Finance. "I think we should all support our president whether we’re happy or sad. This is America. We should come together and I think an inauguration should be a time to unite, it really should."

Osmond noted she has eight children with widely differing political views.

She later tweeted a statement that she never intended to perform at the inauguration, no matter who won.

"I try to stay out of politics," she said on Twitter. "My interview statement simply tried to be nice and promote a message of love, not hate."

Osmond and brother Donny performed at Ronald Reagan’s inauguration in 1981.

Various A-list performers have rejected the opportunity or said they would not perform at Trump's Jan. 20 inauguration, but last month Trump tweeted he had been turning down A-listers who wanted to perform and wanted to have “the people” represented at the inauguration.

So far, teen singer Jackie Evancho is scheduled to sing the national anthem, with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir and the Radio City Rockettes also scheduled to perform, along with 40 high school and college marching bands.

One member of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir quit over the choir’s decision to perform. Some members of the Rockettes also have declined to perform as well.
