"We are thrilled to welcome a superstar like Mark Wahlberg as he takes the helm as our master of ceremonies at the biggest kid event of the year," Nickelodeon's president of content development and production, Russell Hicks, said. "We can’t wait for him to host and have lots of slime-filled fun with Hollywood’s biggest stars and our audience."

Past hosts include Will Smith, Jack Black, Dwayne Johnson, Justin Timberlake, Rosie O’Donnell, Cameron Diaz, Mike Myers and Ben Stiller.

"Lone Survivor" has been a hit for the early 2014 movie season, drawing $96.7 million at the box office since Christmas, according to BoxOfficeMojo.com.

Wahlberg was nominated for a Best Motion Picture Oscar with David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman for the movie "The Fighter," which earned Oscars for Christian Bale (Best Supporting Actor) and Melissa Leo (Best Supporting Actress).

Wahlberg was also nominated for a Best Supporting Actor Academy Award for the 2006 movie "The Departed," which won the Oscar for Best Motion Picture in 2007.

Wahlberg will star next in the latest "Transformers" installment, "Transformers: Age of Extinction," in June. The sequel to his comedy "Ted" and the movie "The Gambler" will hit theaters in 2015.
