Marvel may soon produce a film with a female Muslim superhero called Ms. Marvel, the president of Marvel Studios hinted in an interview with the BBC.
Producer Kevin Feige told the BBC "Ms. Marvel ... is definitely sort of in the works."
Ms. Marvel is a character in the comic books, a teenage Muslim superhero whose alter ego is a Pakistani-American named Kamala Khan. Feige told the British network that Ms. Marvel is "the Muslim hero who is inspired by Captain Marvel."
Ms. Marvel wouldn't be the studio's first female superhero. The "Avengers" and "Captain America" films have long featured Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow, and rumors are that she'll get her own film soon. In addition, Evangeline Lily stars as The Wasp in the upcoming "Ant-Man and the Wasp," and Brie Larson is set to play a female Captain Marvel in 2019.
Speculation about who would star as Ms. Marvel is already underway.
