Mary Ellen Trainor, the actress best known for her roles in "The Goonies" and the "Lethal Weapon" franchise, died May 20 at age 62, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy confirmed Monday.

Kennedy, a college classmate and longtime friend of Trainor's, said she died at her home in Montecito, California, according to Deadline.com. The actress, who also had small roles in "Scrooged," "Die Hard," and "Ghostbusters II," suffered from pancreatic cancer, TMZ reported.

Trainor played the mother of Josh Brolin and Sean Astin's characters in the 1985's "The Goonies." She then played the role of police psychiatrist Stephanie Woods concerned about the state of Mel Gibson's character in 1987's "Lethal Weapon."

She would then go on to reprise that role in three follow-up sequels to "Lethal Weapon" in 1989, 1992, and 1998. Entertainment Weekly wrote that she was directed by former husband Robert Zemeckis in roles for "Forrest Gump" and "Back to the Future, Part II."

Variety wrote that Trainor was studying broadcast journalism at San Diego State when a radio station manager asked her to be an on-air personality, later paving the way for a position at KCBS-TV and then in the entertainment industry.

Many shared their condolences for Trainor's passing on Twitter.
