Matt Damon revealed Monday that Ben Affleck told him years ago about Gwyneth Paltrow’s alleged harassment experience at the hands of Harvey Weinstein.
Damon called Weinstein an “a**hole” and a “womanizer” during an interview on "Good Morning America," but said he never saw any questionable behaviors during the time he spent with Weinstein.
"You could spend five minutes with him to know he was a bully, he was intimidating. That was his legend. That was his whole M.O.," Damon said. "Could you survive a meeting with Harvey? Could you stand up for yourself?"
"[Weinstein] didn't do it out in the open," Damon said of the alleged harassment against women. "I wouldn't want to be married to the guy, but that’s not my business, really. But this level of criminal sexual predation is not something that I ever thought was going on," he told "Good Morning America"'s Michael Strahan.
Damon said he didn’t talk to Paltrow about the harassment story because he'd heard it from Affleck and was told “she had handled it.” Paltrow was dating Brad Pitt at the time of the alleged harassment, but later dated Affleck.
"She was, you know, the first lady of Miramax," Damon went on. "And (Weinstein) treated her incredibly respectfully, always."
More than 40 women have accused Weinstein of harassment and sexual assault, including several who claim Weinstein raped them. Weinstein maintains all sexual activity was freely given and not coerced.
