Actor Matthew McConaughey has been cast as the most intense cheerleader at the Olympics, with a series of expressive photos from Rio de Janeiro that have gone viral, to the delight of NBC which is televising the 2016 Games.
Sporting USA Olympic T-shirts, the superfan actor has captured the attention of the internet with his attendance in Rio.
"And, frankly, as far as we're concerned, the only thing better than watching the Games, is watching this superstar superfan watch the Games," NBC's "Today" show noted.
During Monday night's swim finals, the actor frequently rose to his feet or leaned forward in his seat to catch the action.
The 46-year-old Oscar-winning actor is attending the Games with his wife, Camila Alves, who was born in Brazil, and is serving as NBC and E!’s lifestyle correspondent during the Olympics, Vanity Fair reported.
During events ranging from swimming to rugby to basketball, McConaughey has been on the scene, either seated with his wife or in the stands alone, along with posing for photos with athletes and getting schooled in rugby by U.S.A. team member Jillion Potts in front of NBC cameras.
"It's the first time I've been to the Olympics, actually," McConaughey told CBC News, according to The Daily Mail. "We're always looking for a reason to be here and this gave us a really good reason."
Images and comments about the actor's trip to Rio were shared widely on Twitter.
