McDonald's Cash: Bag of Money Handed Over Instead of Drive-Through Order

A Tennessee couple came home from a McDonald’s drive-through with a bag full of cash, mistakenly given to them rather than the breakfast order they placed.

Greg and Stayce Terry, Hermitage, Tenn., were shocked to open their McDonald's bag and find thousands of dollars of cash, WPTV said.

“My husband opened the bag and discovered the money inside,” Stacye Terry told WPTV. “He said, ‘You are not going to believe this.’ Sure enough, it was their bank deposit money.”

A McDonald’s employee quickly realized what had happened and caught up with the couple at their home, which was just a few minutes away from the Lebanon Road restaurant. The Terrys immediately returned the money.

“The second that he said it was their deposit, my first thing was let's get in the truck and take it back," Stacye Terry told the TV station. "There is no other way to have it. I couldn't live with myself."

The owner of that McDonald’s, Phil Gray, put out a statement lauding the couple for their willingness to return the money.

“We are looking into why this mistake happened, but what is most important to us is knowing that we are part a community with the values that were evidenced by this person's actions,” the statement said.

The Terrys took pictures of the cash and posted them online, laughing about the experience, WPTV said.

The online community debated whether they would have returned the money and gave a high-five to the Terrys for doing so.
