Mega Millions Jackpot Reaches $144M as Lottery Fever Flares Again

By    |   Thursday, 14 August 2014 11:02 AM EDT

The Mega Millions jackpot has jumped to $144 million ahead of Friday's nationwide drawing after no one matched all the numbers in Tuesday's picks.

Tuesday's winning numbers were 32-53-60-63-68, with a Mega Ball of 6, according to the Mega Millions website. The next drawing is Friday at 11 p.m. EST. The $144 million jackpot has a cash payout option of $84 million.

The lottery organization said that Kelsey Zachow, a 24-year-old from Port Huron, Michigan, was one of the most recent winners, capturing a $66 million jackpot from the Michigan Lottery on July 13.

"When the clerk at the store told me I had a big winner I was positive that he was mistaken," Zachow told Mega Millions. "There was a long line in the store behind me, so I decided to leave and looked the numbers up on MichiganLottery.com when I got into my car. That's when I realized I had won the jackpot and could barely breathe."

Mega Millions also doled out $100 million-plus prizes to other individual winners recently. In April, Raymond Moyer and Robyn Collier, both 35, of Merritt Island, Florida, split a $414 million jackpot.

"We didn't know we had won until the next morning when the numbers were on the news," Collier told Mega Millions. "I paused the TV and ran to get the ticket to double check the numbers and when I realized they all matched I jumped off the couch in excitement and told Raymond we had won."

Northern California delivery truck driver Steve Tran won a $173.8 million prize in December after purchasing tickets in several locations along his route.

"I'm really sorry, boss. I hit the jackpot," Tran told lottery officials he told his boss back in January. "I don't think I'm going to come in today, tomorrow, or ever."

Lottery customers can play the Mega Millions in 43 states, plus the District of Columbia and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Alabama, Alaska, Hawaii, Mississippi, Nevada, Utah, and Wyoming do not operate or allow a state lottery.
