Melissa Gilbert has decided to "age gracefully" without breast implants, Botox or hair dye and it is all because of love.
The 53-year-old actress, who decided to forego cosmetic procedures in favor of being all natural, said her decision came after falling in love with her husband Timothy Busfield, People magazine reported.
"Through his inspiration I found the courage to just be me," she told People in a recent interview, explaining that she wanted to "age gracefully and appropriately" and allow her body and face to "become whatever they are going to become."
"I’m done with enhancements," the "Little House on the Prairie" actress added. "I look great for my age and I feel great and I’m happy."
Gilbert certainly seems to be in a much more holistic place in her life — a far cry from where she was several years ago, when the pressure to fit in with other Hollywood A-listers drove her to have plenty of work done to her face and body.
"There's this mentality in Hollywood of not allowing women to age or gain weight or to simply be themselves," she previously stated, according to The Daily Mail.
Gilbert said she had a nose job, breast implants, Botox and fillers all in the name of beauty, but it is a race without any victory.
"The pressure that I put on myself was to stay as young as I could for as long as I could and remain an ingénue as long as I could, which is impossible," she told People, explaining how it all culminated in 2012, when she appeared on "Dancing with the Stars."
Something had to give and eventually Gilbert realized she had to sit back and re-evaluate her life and priorities.
In 2015 Gilbert revealed that she was having her breast implants removed and soon after, she stopped having Botox and other fillers injected into her face.
The decision is something very much against the grain in the U.S., where cosmetic procedures such as Botox are all the rage.
However, Gilbert has embraced her natural beauty and, in the process, she has rediscovered happiness and appreciation for life.
"I have the joy of being able to work on these incredible projects and live a life of fun and freedom with a man I adore and who cherishes and adores me back," she said, according to The Daily Mail.
"By and large, the body image thing doesn't come into play anymore."
