Michael Enright, a British actor who starred in "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest," has joined the Kurdish People’s Protection Units in an effort to fight ISIS in Syria, citing his debt to America as inspiration.
The 51-year-old actor left Hollywood when he felt a call to action after watching a video of a pilot being burned alive and journalists being beheaded, he
told the Dubai-based channel Al Aan TV in a recent interview, according to ABC News.
Enright said he needed to “right a wrong."
“For me, the biggest regret of my life was not going to Afghanistan when 9/11 happened,” Enright told Al Aan TV. “The beheading videos brought out the same kind of feelings in me, and a real sense that I had a duty to America. I really feel a debt to the country. You know, they welcomed me with open arms.”
Enright left a letter for his family and friends in case he does not return.
“I didn’t come here to run, I came here to fight, and if I have to die, then I die,” he said.
The actor has gone from a comfortable life in America to a military lifestyle of sleeping on floors.
“ISIS, they need to be wiped off completely the face of this earth,” Enright said. “They are a stain on humanity. This is a call on humanity to obliterate them.”
According to The Huffington Post, Enright has visited the Middle East where he learned about its culture and Islam prior to joining the Kurdish war effort. He has changed his name to Mustafa Michael Ali.
