Jordan Dunks at 50: NBA Great May Be Older, But He Can Still Jump (Video)

By    |   Monday, 12 August 2013 04:40 PM EDT

Michael Jordan can still manage to get a dunk down at 50. Considered by many as the best NBA player of all time, Jordan showed his skills recently at his Flight School Camp at the University of California, Santa Barbara.

A photo of Jordan dunking with the tweet: "This still happens," was sent out Thursday afternoon by @MJFlightSchool.

A YouTube video of the Jordan dunk in front of a gymnasium full of kids at the camp was also posted on Sunday.

While it was hardly the kind of high-flying dunks many fans have come to expect of Jordan, it was fun nostalgia for some, like David Astramskas of Ballislife.com, who added the photo to a picture of Jordan dunking through his, 20s, 30s, 40s and now 50.

Bernie Augustine of the New York Daily News pointed out it was just the latest in a list of former NBA stars showing that they still have it.

"In the NBA TV documentary 'The Doctor,' 63-year-old Julius Erving throws down a one-handed jam and (Indiana) Pacers star Paul George told Slam Online last month that at one point during the season Larry Bird picked up a ball that had rolled over to him on the practice court and calmly drilled 'about 15 (shots) in a row and just walked out like nothing just happened,'" Augustine said in his story.

"Jordan, a notoriously fierce competitor, has made it a habit of reminding younger players why he's considered the greatest of all-time," Augustine continued in his Daily News story. "Bobcats rookie and No. 2 overall draft pick Michael Kidd-Gilchrist admitted that Jordan, his senior by 30 years, beat him in a game of one-on-one last season."

Chris Boren of The Washington Post added: "It may not have been the kind of tongue-wagging, windmill style blast from the Air Jordan days and, frankly, the kid wasn’t offering much in the way of defense, but a dunk is a dunk is a dunk."

Fox Sports' Tully Corcoran said he, though, was 8 when Jordan won his first championship, so he has spent a lifetime watching Jordan in the air.

"So, no, I am not surprised to see the following photo, even though I should be," Corcoran said.
