Radio host Michael Savage said on his show Friday that he has been asked to run as an independent against Sen. Dianne Feinstein of California.

Savage, though not revealing whether he is seriously considering a bid for U.S. Senate, asked his audience what state Democrats would "say about him" if he ran against Feinstein.

"Some very important people have come to me and said 'Savage, would you like to run as an independent for the U.S. Senate in the state of California against the esteemed Dianne Feinstein?'" Savage said on the show.

"Now you may say 'you don't have a ghost of a chance.' . . . How could you David run against the Goliath of Feinstein?' . . . If I ran? If I left radio — I'd have to leave radio to run – and I ran as an independent for U.S. Senate, what would the vermin . . . say about me?"

Savage said he believes that most of the California voters are conservative and Feinstein, as well as House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, have "no standing" in the state.

"I've been asked by a number of very powerful, important people to run as an independent for the U.S. Senate in the state of California and I am contemplating whether I really want to leave what I’ve worked for all my life and roll in the mud because politics is the dirty business on the planet.

"I can't say very good things about politicians . . . I'm just probably not cut out for it, but then again that's what the people want. They want an independent who is not a politician or a lawyer to go out there and represent their interest. I'll say again if you think the entire state of California is like what Nancy Pelosi represents, you're mistaken."

Savage's revelation came as the California Democratic Party declined to officially endorse Feinstein during a vote at its convention over the weekend. It's the first time Feinstein has failed to win the party's backing since her first successful U.S. Senate campaign in 1994.

The state convention voted 57 to 34 percent in favor of state Senate Democratic leader Kevin de Leon, who will face off against Feinstein in the June primary, according to Newsmax White House correspondent John Gizzi. Though it's worth noting neither Feinstein nor de Leon secured the 60 percent needed to score the official endorsement.

Savage, who was inducted into the National Radio Hall of Fame in 2016, spearheads "The Savage Nation," the country’s No. 1 streaming radio show. It boasts millions of listeners and is broadcast on more than 230 stations, including WABC and KSFO.
