Radio personality Michael Savage will be inducted into the National Radio Hall of Fame in a ceremony Thursday night in Chicago.

The host of nationally syndicated radio program “The Savage Nation” was chosen over Sean Hannity, Diane Rehm, and Mike Francesca in a listener poll for the category Spoken Word On-Air Personality.

Savage’s show is syndicated in more than 200 U.S. markets by Cumulus Media and is considered one of the top talk shows in the nation by Talkers Magazine, which awarded him the Freedom of Speech award in 2007. He signed a multi-year contract with Westwood One last August.

Savage also has written more than 30 books, some of which were New York Times best-sellers, including the famous “Liberalism is a Mental Disorder.”

Salon magazine nicknamed Savage “the Godfather of Trumpmania” earlier this year for his outspoken support of the then-presidential candidate and his message of borders, language, and culture that dovetailed with Savage’s own message and goals.

Trump was a frequent guest on Savage’s show even though the outsider candidate shunned many other media opportunities that he felt might be more unfriendly. Savage has said he intends to hold Trump accountable for his promises to bring reform to Washington.

“Radio is king,” Savage told WND, referring to the influence of talk radio on the election. Savage added, “This award represents a lifetime of achievement to me. I’m honored to be in the company of greats such as Walter Winchell and Orson Welles.”

Savage holds several medical masters degrees and a Ph.D. from the University of California at Berkeley in epidemiology and nutrition sciences.
