Michael Savage, host of the radio talk show "The Savage Nation," has renewed his contract with Cumulus Media’s syndicator Westwood One and announced a new format he calls "Unprotected Talk."
The format will combine timely political events and lifestyle issues, according to a news release.
The talk-show host also announced a $100,000 scholarship fund for conservative college students, which will award two-year scholarships to five recipients based on an essay contest.
"I'm not shying away from politics and I'm not running for office like others in the media," Savage said in the statement. "Cumulus has allowed me to expand my reach, but my goal has remained the same — to deliver the best, most comprehensive commentary on radio and edutain the world in the process. With my new scholarship fund I can now help inspire the next generation by encouraging education and conservative values."
Describing his move into
lifestyle topics, Savage told the Washington Times: "You can call in to me and I’ll be your life coach. I can help people. That’s what I’ve been put on this earth to do."
Savage was the fifth most popular talk radio host in December (behind Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Dave Ramsey, and a Glenn Beck-Mark Levin tie), and the most streamed radio host in the
fourth quarter, the New York Post reported.
Savage has written more than 20 books, including his most recent "Stop the Coming Civil War" and a coming Jack Hatfield novel, "Countdown to Mecca."
