Michael "Pretty Boy Floyd" Wilson was captured days after he escaped from a state prison in Ocean Springs, Mississippi, CBS News reported.
The 47-year-old convict was handed two life sentences in 2015 for two separate killings in Harrison County and is believed to have escaped from the South Mississippi Correctional Facility on Thursday by climbing a fence and making a break for it.
An intense manhunt ensued, with multiple law enforcement agencies across the region joining forces to search for Wilson.
After receiving multiple tips and sighting reports, authorities tracked down the escaped convict in a residential neighborhood and returned him to the Leakesville prison on Saturday, WLOX noted.
One resident, Jade Bates, said she was approached by Wilson asking for a ride.
"[It was] just random," she told the news outlet. "If the cops wouldn't have come, really...honestly...hardly anyone of us would have known it was the guy from the news. It was that random. It was almost as if someone was asking you for a cigarette outside of Walmart."
Wilson was arrested in an area littered by abandoned trailers and residents believe he may have been hiding out there.
Sheriff Mike Ezell said it appeared as if someone had been feeding the inmate while he was hiding, WLOX said.
MDOC Commissioner Pelicia E. Hall commended law enforcements for their efforts to capture Wilson.
"It was a joint effort to get a dangerous felon back into custody without anyone getting hurt," Hall said, according to WLOX.
Wilson was first arrested and charged with murder in 2014 following a high-speed chase in Jackson County.
According to KFVS, he became a person of interest when police discovered the body of Carmen Dale Edward, who was found dead in his apartment at Maison D'Orleans.
Six days after a search was launched for Wilson, law enforcements captured him at the intersection of Highway 90 and Highway 57.
In addition to the murder charges, Wilson has also pleaded guilty to prior unrelated charges in Circuit Court, for which he was sentenced to serve 17 years, KFVS noted.
While Wilson may be back behind bars after his near-successful jail break, there are hundreds of other escaped convicts still on the loose.
A coast-to-coast survey launched in 2015 found that more than 220 state prison escapees nationwide are listed as on the loose.
Many of these inmates have been gone for decades, leaving scant prospects of finding them.
