First Lady Michelle Obama turned heads Tuesday with the dress she wore to the White House state dinner for Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong.
The strapless Brandon Maxwell ivory column gown was similar to the pantsuit Lady Gaga wore on the Oscar's red carpet, USA Today noted.
The floor-length gown featured pleats across the front and a belted waist. Obama accessorized with Butani earrings and two rings, People magazine noted.
"It has been an incredible honor for me and my team to create this dress for the First Lady," Maxwell said in a statement. "Strong and elegant, she is the embodiment of the woman that inspires me to create, and a role model for women all over the world. I am very thankful for this opportunity."
Maxwell, a native of Texas, launched his collection in 2015. He works as Lady Gaga's fashion director.
Obama has used fashion to communicate, fashion critic Robin Givhan wrote for The Washington Post.
"She has embraced the sleeveless sheath as the contemporary woman's business uniform, encouraged the mixing of high-priced designs with mass-market merchandise, elevated the work of mom-and-pop small businesses and celebrated the enduring style of America's mammoth legacy brands," Givhan wrote.
"Obama has promoted the fashion designs of immigrants, minorities, women and even students."
The Obamas' 12th state dinner marked the 50th anniversary of bilateral relations between the U.S. and Singapore.
Many Twitter users praised the dress.
