Mike Francesa, the "Sports Pope," is returning to New York's sports radio WFAN in the 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. time slot, according to the New York Daily News.
Francesa retired from WFAN four months ago after a legendary 30 years with the radio station. The 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. slots ahead of him will be split between Joe Benigno and Evan Roberts, the station's current 10 a.m.–2 p.m. team, and CMB, aka Chris Carlin, Maggie Gray and Bart Scott, who replaced Francesa earlier this year, the Daily News reported.
The Daily News wrote that the date of the new lineup has not been announced but it could be "soon."
Newsday reported that Francesa, who held down the 1-6:30 p.m. time slot for WFAN until Dec. 15, had been free to sign elsewhere since April 1 and has worked with Creative Artists Agency, CAA, on his future endeavors.
"Have there been times when I wish I had a forum and I wanted to express myself? Absolutely," Francesa told Newsday. "Many, many times that has come up. I have to say, I miss it more than I thought I would . . . There have been some [topics] that have gotten me. There's no question. I don't want to list them, but there's been more than a few I would have loved to opine on."
Francesa's return generated a positive reaction from fans on social media.
