Mike Huckabee said the Iran deal will spell death for Israel's citizens, making a reference to the Holocaust by saying President Barack Obama's actions will "march them to the door of the oven."
"This president’s foreign policy is the most feckless in American history. It is so naive that he would trust the Iranians," the former Arkansas governor and presidential contender
told Breitbart News.
"By doing so, he will take the Israelis and march them to the door of the oven. This is the most idiotic thing, this Iran deal. It should be rejected by both Democrats and Republicans in Congress and by the American people. I read the whole deal. We gave away the whole store. It’s got to be stopped."
Deborah Wasserman-Schultz, U.S. Representative for Florida and head of the Democratic National Committee, soon released her own statement condemning Huckabee's choice of words,
Time magazine reported.
"Mike Huckabee must apologize to the Jewish community and to the American people for this grossly irresponsible statement," she said. She added that such "cavalier analogies" were unacceptable.
Another Democratic group, The National Jewish Democratic Council, also released a statement.
"Republicans have fallen over themselves to speak out against Donald Trump’s outrageous rhetoric on immigration and veterans. Will they now do the same and speak out against this unacceptable attack against President Obama that smears the memory of Holocaust victims … or will they stand by in silence and implicit approval?"
On Sunday, Huckabee shook off the partisan attacks, reiterating on Twitter the danger the Iran deal poses to Israel, a longtime U.S. ally.
