Mike Rowe to Facebook Ranter: Why Christians Vote Republican

By    |   Tuesday, 25 November 2014 06:04 AM EST

Mike Rowe, host of CNN "Somebody's Gotta Do It," let loose on a Facebook ranter who questioned why Christians would vote Republican.

In a Facebook post titled "Some Unsolicited Marketing Advice from Mike Rowe at 37,000 Feet," reported on by the Washington Times, the former host of the Discovery Channel's "Dirty Jobs" challenged commenter Jim Green.

Rowe claimed Green originally wrote: "It is ALARMING when we do the demographic post mortem on this election, because it is probable that it was decided by our RACISTS – voting against President Obama, who wasn’t on the ballot – that gave the Republicans their election wins – OUR GREED AND IGNORANCE, Amazon.com."

Rowe, whose response has generated more than 6,100 comments, 58,700 likes and 6,700 shares since Nov. 17,  examined Green's statement as a tongue-in-cheek post book proposal.

"It appears you're still trying to sell some books on my Facebook page," Rowe wrote. "Personally, I haven't read them, and based on your marketing strategy, I suspect I'm probably not alone. Since part of your approach seems to involve me, I thought perhaps I might offer you some unsolicited marketing advice."

Rowe suggested that Green write friendlier post, to not call his audience names like "racists," limiting the entries of his post, the use of capital letter and making sure they are not redundant.

"Regarding your overall claim, I'm not an authority on Republicans or Christians, but last I checked, America is still populated by plenty of both," Rowe wrote. "Unless you wish to alienate a majority of the country, you might consider something a tad more conciliatory. Something like – 'There is no 'R' in Jesus - But There's G-O-P in Gospel!'"

Before joining CNN this fall, Rowe was the host and the executive producer of the Discovery Channel's "Dirty Jobs" from 2005-2012, according to CNN. In that show, Rowe did more than 300 jobs in swamps, sewers, ice roads, coal mines, and oil derricks, exposing viewers to some of the country's dirtiest jobs, wrote CNN.
