A Milwaukee bus driver helped a blind man find his way across the street when road construction made him vary his route.

A woman took a picture of Thaddaus Turner, an MCTS bus driver, helping 69-year-old Gene Hubbard navigate the unfamiliar terrain and make it to his office for work, Fox6 reported. Hubbard lost his sight to diabetes but still goes to work every day.

“No, I don’t have plans to retire,” Hubbard told Fox6. He rides the bus to work alone and until the road construction started, he knew every step he had to take.

“If I don’t have a regular locating point to start from, I may as well be in the middle of the ocean,” he told the news station.

Turner’s good deed was posted to Facebook and quickly went viral after the photo was submitted to MCTS by someone who witnessed the deed, CNN reported.

While Turner was the one captured on camera helping Hubbard, the blind man said many other drivers also have helped him when he’s asked, Fox reported.

“I just can’t say enough about all the bus drivers,” Hubbard told Fox.

Turner said he was caught off guard by all the attention the photo has brought.

“I was surprised when I saw it in the news,” he said, CNN reported. “I didn’t think I would be here right now over something that is second nature to me, and my colleagues.”

According to Fox, new bus drivers for MCTS meet with differently abled passengers with as part of their training to get a better understanding of how they can be of service.
