Mirelle Darc, the French acting icon from the 1960s and 1970s, has died at age 79.

French media outlets reported Darc passed away Sunday night, according to Deadline Hollywood. Her husband Pascal Desprez told Europe1 she had been in a coma for three days before she died.

Darc, a model who blossomed as an actress in the French cinema, appeared in more than 50 films and often collaborated with Georges Lautner, Jean-Luc Godard, Édouard Molinaro, Alain Delon and Michel Audiard.

Born in 1938, Darc was compared to fellow French actress Brigitte Bardot, Deadline noted. She is remembered for 1964's "Dandelion By The Roots," which started her association with Lautner.

The two would collaborate on 1960s movies "The Great Spy Chase" and "La Grande Sauterelle."

More of her most memorable films included Godard's "Weekend," Jacques Pinoteau's "Hard Boiled Ones," Denys de La Patellière's "The Upper Hand," and Yves Robert's "The Tall Blond Man With One Black Shoe."

Darc broke from film acting in the 1990s and worked on several television series through the early 2000s. She also directed numerous documentaries for television before suffering a series of strokes last year.

On Twitter, French Culture Minister Francois Nyssen recognized Darc as "a talented actress, a woman of courage and commitment."

Fans remembered the actress on Twitter, as well.
