Mississippi State Mascot Run Over by ESPN TV Golf Cart

By    |   Monday, 02 December 2013 09:10 AM EST

Mississippi State's mascot took a beating during Thursday's Egg Bowl game when the student inside the furry bulldog suit was run over by an ESPN golf cart.

It happened during the fourth quarter of the Thanksgiving rivalry game between MSU and Ole Miss. The student, later identified as Michaela Mills, was standing on the sidelines dressed as "Bully" when she was clipped by the ESPN TV cart, USA Today reported.

Mills suffered a compound fracture — meaning the bone went through the skin — and was wheeled away on a stretcher. She reportedly underwent emergency surgery Thursday night and another procedure Friday morning, according to SBNation.com.

MSU athletic director Scott Stricklin tweeted a message of support to Mills after the game Thursday.

MSU went on to win the game 17-10 in overtime. The Egg Bowl was broadcast on ESPN.

Being a team mascot is risky business. Just last week KC Wolf, the Kansas City Chiefs' mascot, was seriously injured while rehearsing for an on-field skit involving a zip line, Yahoo! Sports reported
